Paintastic Photos

 Hi everyone! Today I am going to show you how to do a VERY quick, INCREDIBLY easy, photo altering technique... turning your photos into one of a kind without using photo shop to add color. 

Here is a quick glimpse of one of the photos I alter...

All you need is a couple of paintbrushes, a few of your favorite almost dried out Shimmerz paints (DON'T EVER THROW THOSE OUT UNTIL THEY ARE EMPTY!!!) and a couple of black and white photos.

"I was raised around many different talented and artistic people, who were very encouraging and supportive, always teaching me new skills in arts and crafts. When I reached High school my main focus became painting and sculpting. I won many awards and scholarships for my pottery and sculpting pieces. Life had taken over and my love for art took a backseat to family but when my daughter was born in 2003 I decided to begin scrapbooking, taking those memories and journaling them for future generations. Like everyone my style has morphed and expanded since I began. Recently I went back to my roots of fine arts and meld my two passions together. Bringing my paper arts into my fine mixed media skills. My style is eclectic and varies on the design and subject I'm creating for, I don't limit myself with a label. I love to step outside of the box and push my limits. I enjoy teaching others the skills I have learned and created and inspiring others to find their own styles and creativity. I live in Southern California with my husband and our two children, I am blessed with the opportunity to work on my art full time while being there for my children.

Today is my first post as a Shimmerz Educator. I am so excited to be joining an amazing group of artists. Today I would like to share this video of how I designed an artistic background for my scrapbook page.

A Sweet, Spring, Canvas

Today I thought we would create a spring-y time canvas, that includes creating some clouds using texture mediums and beautiful colors from Shimmerz.

Here is the a peek at what we will be doing today...

and here is the colors that I used!

To create the entire canvas you will also need:

a 6x6 canvas

strips of neutral colored cardstock

an acrylic bird cut out

molding paste

bead gel

gesso

paintbrushes

heat gun

liquid adhesive

Guest Designer, Jamie Dougherty!

It thrills me today, to introduce this months Guest Designer, Jamie Dougherty! Not only is she a friend of mine, but she is brilliant when it comes to using and incorporating paint into her breathtaking mixed media artwork! Here is a little bit more about Jamie in her own words...

"I've been creating art since my late teens. I had a fine arts and pottery background, coming into scrapbooking, so in the eight years that I have been creating scrapbook pages, I have learned to infuse my fine arts into my pieces. I love to involve myself in all aspects and avenues of creativity. Welcome to todays video.

Lydell with you again today to share with you a journal page in my Project Life Journal.

Its pretty cool to be able to mix Art journaling with record/diary keeping and I am having a lot of fun doing it. I made the album and am now working through adding in significant events, thoughts and feelings of 2012 so far. I am going to have to extend the binding pretty soon, and maybe even more than once over the months to come.

Bingocard with Shimmerz

Hi there!

Mahlin here again with a new video... 

But first of all... Don´t forget to check out these darlings and the info in the yesterdays blogpost... 

I´ve used Hottie pink and Sparkaliscious in my video today. 

I like to have cards for different occasions readymade at home and my video today shows you how I decorated a bingocard into a cute card with Shimmerz. Ready to give away on a birthday or just to say thank you.  Since I don´t know who I will give it to there is still some decorating to complete, and a text to go with it.
